The company could argue that the general tenor of the gold discovered so far befits an open pit project rather than underground, therefore prioritising near surface mineralisation will lead to an earlier view of project development potential.

However I would personally agree with your position Squanski - keep testing the lateral and depth limits of the discovery as this is what defines the scale and nature of a future mining project, if there is to be one.
