"A lot of groups" is not a democracy...they are a minority bunch of noisy ill informed ferals that wouldn't know sheet from clay....if you want a democracy then it should have been put to all Victorians whether they wanted onshore exploration to continue....ban fracking in coal seam fields for sure but LKO have no interest in CSG and CSG does not exist in any of their permits.
Why is the Vic government now exploring for onshore gas?
Who are they acting for with the multi million dollar aerial survey work in light of the fact that one of the majors had applied to survey the area where LKO held exploration permits.
Why don't the Vic government just ask to see the prior seismic results that located most of the Victorian oil and gas resources and that Rob Annells had analysed in the US....or is that not good enough for them ( from memory I think it was Shell that did the surveys quite a few years ago).
Why the blanket objection to the drilling of two conventional wells in the Otway region to prove up the 12 trillion cubic feet resource when Origin had already been given an exemption to drill 4 directional wells barely 20 kilometers away from LKO's intended drill sites.My guess is that they are locking the resource up for one of the major players.
That the law was changed retrospectively is a black mark on the rule of law in Australia....I believe that this would be illegal in the US and for good reason.
The Victorian government if they had the numbers could decide to place a moratorium on the use of coal in the generation of power .....introduce retrospective legislation to make it legal and suffer no consequences....think about that!
