The Free Papua independence movement has been around for a couple of decades at least and goes back to the plebiscite in the early 1960s where the people voted to be ruled by Indonesia. The vote was probably rigged but the UN, Australia and most nations else supports Indonesian jurisdiction.

The Indonesian military has periodic crackdowns on the rebels and leaders have been killed and jailed and others have fled over the border to PNG. I don't the rebellion as a threat to the Dawero mining operation and the local police would have it in hand.
