tilleydog, if the deal is to fall through, the Chinese would be snapping it up at 36c or more.
One reason Xstrata may not have entered the fray is because they are waiting for the last hurdle in the Glencore / Xstarta (merger) on 16th April which happens to be the Chinese regulators. Every other major international regulators have already rubber stamped the deal.
This is the same reason why I think Glencore hasn't bidded for DML (the Chinese have absolutely screwed that company).
The Chinese are dodgy.
Every chinese takeover deal I have had stocks in have turn bad one way or another.
