Still if the original mining was via handheld methods then mechanised methods will require larger drives and hence the amount of required development will be significant. Mechanised mining has lower fixed cost overheads because of the higher volumes of course although processing recoveries may be lower due to the lower grades and haulage costs may increase due to the increased dilution.
