That might explain things, even if I think that is a slightly losing proposition over time, I can't knock their performance.
I think this qs results were a bit worse than the AISC headlines, as there was 10%ish more gold sold than produced. However there was a significant explanation given. I don't see any reason not to take them at their word at this stage. Still spreadsheets should give a lower number, so gold is bullish IMO, the quarter and guidance was bearish relative to expectations, and the ameliorating statements are up to everybodies interpretation.
