Just re-reading my answer to you and one of my sentences was a bit clumsy and maybe a bit confusing.
I wrote.
"I highly doubt it as the company can not sell Blackrock its own shares as it doesn't own shares in itself"
I should have really expanded to say.
"I highly doubt it as the company can not sell Blackrock its own shares as it doesn't own shares in itself and it can't buy shares from Blackrock without first announcing a share buy-back scheme. In theory if the company did announce a share buy-back scheme there should be nothing stopping it buying back its shares using physical gold if it wished and it made financial sense somehow. This would technically be regarded as an in species transaction and the only way your theory could work in practice IMO" Esh
