Lol just one person's opinion 77, didn't mean to cause offence.
Sure happy to provide some ying to your yang. But not sure yang cares about ying to be honest.......
Competition. Why is Tinder consistently the #1 grossing app in the lifestyle category in HK? Why is Tinder consistently ranked well above DTX ever since they made those announcements about DTX surpassing Tinder if Tinder doesn't work in Asia? It's a nice soundbite for press releases and investor meetings but it's not founded in reality.
City by city expansion. Not needing to do additional capital raises in order to expand is a very low barrier for comfort. Just because they have the money doesn't mean it's going to yield anything. My point is that this is expensive and risky given they have zero presence and zero expertise in any of these markets. Having to host dress up parties in clubs in every city they expand to is not really something that sounds that attractive to me.
The CEO not coding is definitely not a dealbreaker (I agree with you) but it's just another point that doesn't add up in the story. Having a really strong CTO is usually the counter to this skillset being lacked by the CEO, but that doesn't even occur here. It's what VC funds would look for in a founding team. Of course there will be success stories where this isn't the case but I look at the app reviews and the iterative nature of the app releases (never seen anything like that before) which raises a red flag for me especially considering you're buying into a multi geography roll out strategy.
China. "Whether they can crack it" is the key gamble that you're hanging your hat on, which is fine it just doesn't add up for me. Like I said, maybe it means I will never be able to be a venture capitalist.
I had one question for you - have you really been encouraged by the app rankings? Or do you think this metric is not that useful at this stage?
