The big issue is surfboard performance. All well and good to have a shark deterrent, fantastic idea. But if the board performance suffers then would be a hard sell.
Having said that, probably 90% of boards it would be used in might be beginners and not so experienced surfers, and they wouldn't know the difference. For me personally and many other more experienced surfers, they may not even worry about having it. Take your chances
