Giles appeared to evade the question concerning limitations placed upon them by the Lumileds patent. He stated (as we know) that the arrangement with Lumileds is now non exclusive but then went on to talk about tunnel junctions being a breakthrough which had applicability to various devices - so far so good. What he didn't explain (unless I didn't hear it) was whether the Lumileds patent for cascaded LEDs would restrict the use of tunnel diodes in cascaded LED's would be restricted to Lumileds or anyone Lumileds chose to licence. I know the RPCVD technology is protected by patent but what I want to know is can anyone else (e.g Osram) produce cascaded LEDs using tunnel junctions apart from Lumileds and their licencees this wasn't answered.
