Solar panels on roofs are unsightly it's true but all kinds of building materials including roofing, masonry and glass will be able to capture solar energy in the future, so aesthetics wont be a problem.
It's the dramatic drop in costs of producing panels that's changing the situation, which will flow on to other materials, as will big drops in battery costs worldwide.
The synergies of those two events will drive the world forward with renewables IMO, wind will become progressively more fringe due to the costs.
Wave energy has it's place, otherwise I wouldn't be here - but the science is very subtle - and explains all the technical challenges to-date and what I see as a lot of clumsy engineering as companies try to make it work.
Protean solves those challenges in my view, and inherently has the greatest potential for viral growth once it gets some momentum.
Funding/promotion will all help so the company must pursue that I agree with Chill.
(Just love the idea of being involved from the start when everybody else starts saying "why didn't I think of that, so simple" )
