When you read the wind and are in the ocean surrounded by nothing but water, the horizon looks the same in all directions. When you reach that horizon and look again you might see nothing but the horizon in all directions again.
We need to read the wind well and have patience before the land comes into sight, but once it's within our sites we know the length of our journey.
