Field testing data aligning with numerical (theoretical) modelling is IMO very encouraging news.
The other part I like is them pursuing results from a 20 m depth. Since Protean makes compressed air one way (three components with one on the sea floor), positive field data would mean it is productive with that degree of cabling extension from buoy to mid section to base.
If successful, this provides a much broader off-shore harvesting area than I was anticipating, bringing in the bathymetric sub-surface environment of many more island nations as potential power/desalination consumers for the technology.
Maldives for example is an enormous archipelago of coral atolls with shallow borders and a sea floor which drops away rapidly. Proven depths around 20 m will enhance their prospects there whilst increasing the suitability in other environments.
Cheers BC
