"Non-cash" write off always amuses me as a term...it got on the balance sheet by spending cash...
Anyway, a distraction from core business. $6m drop in market cap on the back of accelerating write off of a sunk cost of $2m. The real risk is if anything else comes out of the woodwork on this or other areas in due course (either from the company or advisors).
