Definitely not the most expensive fish in Australia but is one of the best species. The marketing guys have done a great job promoting this product. I love grabbing a side of this when it comes in fresh. Sashimi cuts on day 1 and the rest fried day 2.
Feed payments were down for first half at $3.5M (even though feed inventory went up $1.4M) when it should be annualised close to $13M. Next quarter shows $6M feed cost.
I can understand they use pellets due to ease of storage and fish being reasonably small compared to bluefin tuna. They should add local sardine in their feed mix for the mature fish. Who does not love a fish that has been fed its natural diet vs pellets? The local sardine industry there is huge. The fish are very small, cheap and perfect for the Kingfish (as they are for the tuna).
