Interesting. Never heard of a DUNS.  Dun & Bradstreet registers a company with a # that is part of the  'Data Universal Numbering System'.  

identifies a company's Dun & Bradstreet business credit file.....enables a single source of truth in the capture and storage of information related to a company's customers, partners, and suppliers. 

Need one to get a loan from an American bank or company?

To do business at a partner level with an American company ?

Might have been necessary when finalising some arrangements with Polaris. 

But might be a precursor to something yet to happen...
