A smsf can acquire shares in a listed companyfrom a related party as you know. My memory tells
me that there was a time when the transaction could be done off-market provided that the price was at market price (agree with you); I think that the ATO said that it had to be done on market instead, but I think that it then reversed that decision.
Anyway, one of the Martin's smsfs (Nitro) bought off-market on 11 May from Goldfire. Interestingly that was on a Friday. The price was 5.6c if my calcs are correct. The TH was the following Monday. Sixth sense? CGT loss transaction?
Then, and if my sums are right, it was Goldfire that bought 2m on market last Wednesday 16th May, 1 day after the big news. It paid 10c, so $200k was parted with.
Anyway, the Martin family has 2m more shares than it did before the news. GOOD sign!
