Whole Foods carry over 30,000 SKU's and, with respect, from I have seen their range of pet foods is not what I would describe as large. They are nothing more than an online supermarket and it would appear to me that their core market (focus) is food for human consumption. The fact that they sell pet food is just part and parcel of running a supermarket.
IMO, I don't think Amazon gains any additional advantage from the purchase of Whole Foods, in respect to competing with Petbarn, other than perhaps access to new suppliers, which it probably could have got on its own anyway.
Unless of course Whole Foods already has an established network of Australian suppliers which is not likely, so what exactly will Amazon get that will be of concern to Petbarn?
The impact is likely to be isolated to the American fresh food market, IMHO.
