I think the loyalty program is the real key here. Whilst we don't know what kind of impact Amazon will have, we can assume there will be some impact eventually. However, if you buy you products from Amazon as opposed to Petbarn, will Amazon give you the benefits of loyalty that Petbarn will? I don't think so. Personally, I think their loyalty program is good, but there needs to be more valuable Veterinarian benefits tied into it to give customers that added incentive to continue to shop there. It does have free dental check-ups, but if we want customers to think about where they will get the best value for money, customers need to be able to look beyond the comparison of a retail price of a bag of dog food, Vet services need to be in there. That will be one thing Amazon will not be able to compete with.
