Around Leonora and Kal and the more recent increase in activity in the Murchison most of roads are red silt the silt gets in the drum brakes and causes high wear.
Probably the same in the Pilbara although trains seem to be the main long haul transport there.
Also the rear trailer in a triple dump inherantly starts fish tailing at speed, the way that is used to stop fishtailing is to intermitantly tap the brakes which causes wear.
Thats just what I hear.
THe trailer brakes are air operated from a compressor on the tractor unit and are not electric as think you realise (release of air pressure applies the brakes)
In saying that air does have a delay for the last trailer similar to the delay with Westinghouse air train brakes , solenoid overrides (electric over air) are now used on many Trains in Oz prevents delay so reduces stopping distances, FMG uses it on their iron ore trains, so probably could be incorproated on triple dumps.
If there was a seperate electric circuit just for the last axle in the road trian would mean could apply just the last axle brakes via solanoid to prevent fishtailing.
Could put the wiring in the existing loom for stop lights so no extra hook up needed.
