You pickup on market if you want to increase your holding overall.  So if I currently have 50000 shares in my super aaccount, and 50000 shares in a trust account, I may want to still hold only 100000 shares overall (for diversification reasons) but as the stock is not yet paying dividends, I decide to transfer those shares from Super into my trust. The trade will still at some stage show online but will show as a crosstrade.

Same scenario as above but if you just want to  increase your exposure to 150000 shares overall, you will have to buy 50000 on market.  Hope it makes sense.  You can transfer securities fairly easily online (the transfer can pretty much occur instantly if the names on each account are matching exactly).  An etrade screen dump below shows where this capability exists.

If I am wrong as to what I have stated above, I am sure there are many savvy investors out there who will correct me.
