I'm not familiar with this business. I do however like these sorts of discussions, as they are clearly of value to anyone that wants to become a better investor (including myself).
With regards to your comments about capitalised R&D, and the consequential loss in earnings power (not reflected in the P&L), clearly if this R&D is required just to keep up with the competition, then an increase in the dividend payout will impede the company's growth prospects. However, is it possible that some of this expenditure is actually an investment in growth?
In my opinion, if R&D is being directed at opening new lines of businesses, or in innovation that will clearly increase your moat (vis a vis the competition) then it is clearly "growth investment", whether it's capitalised or not.
Of course, I do accept that in the technology space, what R&D will put you ahead of competitors, and what R&D will simply help you keep up with them (at best), is often hard to distinguish.
