A twenty percent stake gives Stokes a pretty powerful voice on the board to advocate for a friendly merger between the two. A merged entity would be worth more. And a merged entity would be an attractive takeover target for an international. If both things happened, Stokes would end up with a healthy capital gain, you would reckon.
