worzel's concerns may be unfounded because:
1. Timler was GM when Granny Smith mine (owned by Barrick) was converted from open pit to underground mine (2005-2007)
2. Timer wasn't at Beadell long enough to do damage. On the contrary, one statement that he was employed there as production improved (but my understanding is that Beadell's problem are beyond leadership issues).
Here are a few more bits of info
• Was with Barrick and Placer Dome (acquired by Barrick in 2005) from 2002 to 2013.
• Earlier career as a geologist and related management with known miners (Kinross, Royal Oak).
• Was appointed GM of Barrick's Buzwagi gold mine in Tanzania in 2010 following a major oil theft that forced Barrick to suspend 60 of its staff.
• Was head of Barrick Gold Lumwana mine (from 2012 to 2013). More than 4,000 employees and contractors at that mine.
• Not clear why Timler left Barrick in 2013, but may be political issues (Barrick threatened to shut down Lumwana in 2014 due to royalty increases) or location issues. No mention of performance problems that I could find. Some writing on Timler's active discussion of social responsibility activities while at Lumwana.
Overall, Timler mostly seems to be highly skilled in mine leadership. He may have been in the wrong place/wrong time with Beadell and left Lumwana for unknown reasons, which could be significant, but not really evidence of any poor performance. He is skilled with underground, although mostly led open pit mines. But he also led very larger operations, which requires considerable talent.
