That's exactly it. It's possible to chart a 'trend' and stocks tend to stay within trends except when sometimes they don't. At those times you make a call whether you think the market will overwhelming buy, sell, and sometimes its neither.
Personally I'm not currently trading and I like to apply FA to my investments before anything else. On a long term basis that has served me better than TA overall. TA is more or less for a bit of fun and I have on occasion managed to time a buy or two just before the price has broken out.
Will be the first to admit that although I (think I) can observe patterns etc I have no f*cking clue which way the SP will move tomorrow.
