As the comments from Alinta make abundantly clear, CBD found that they do not have enough money to make the purchase.
So ashamed they felt, they could not find the courage to tell the shareholders and the ASX until Tuesday, even though the purchase fell through on Friday.
Looks like they hit some rough patch.
