Jargon? Really? I thought it was straight-forward...

I definitely agree that Return on Assets is important. But if assets aren't performing and you can buy them at a significant discount, can't it still be a good investment?
(And when I say discount, I don't mean discount to book value, but discount to actual resale value. Just because this particular company can't find work for them, it doesn't mean someone else can't.)

I'm pretty sure some of the investment greats have done this - part of what is referred to as 'cigar-butt' investing.
