My apologies...not implying an falsehoods or bad information from any startup, but looking for clarification....Chinese SPG processors have improved SPG yields to lower costs over past couple of years to meet increased demand and the 40% loss provided was an example only, but electing to use the 70% loss you provided makes the cost / loss even higher.
Almost all SPG processors (China & India) use LOI not TGC as TGC = LOI-Moisture-Volatiles and current purchased graphite feedstock is -195 LOI not TGC. This would translate to ~ 96% to 97% LOI. This is a basic misunderstanding of graphite concentrate purity. There are advanced applications that do require TGC purity specs.
A 95% TGC translates into ~92 to 93% LOI and for a 91% TGC translates into 88% to 89% LOI, which is below the feedstock purity threshold to thermally purify. It is almost impossible to purify low purity graphite thermally as the cost to purify 88% to 92% LOI would be prohibitive and the conversion from oxide to chlorides cannot be fully accomplished to achieve the target of 99.95%.
Hence, I have worked with processors that specifically use -195 or -1595; spheriodise, then purify to meet purity thresholds and targets...Over the past 3 years, prices for those specific grades have declined ~US$200 MT to ~US$550 to US$600 MT.
