China has been a net exporter of graphite for many years, and, of course, has long been the world's major graphite-producing country.  Graphite imports have been hardly noticeable, with Chinese users (not surprisingly) favouring the local product.

That's why this order is so important.  It is the first major breach in the wall of the world's largest graphite-consuming country.  The other point which has not been mentioned is that China is likely to become a net importer of graphite, in the near future.  A major order like this gives a strong lead to other Chinese users who, to date, have never looked beyond their own borders for supply.

Which company will be right at the top of the list when they start inquiring?
