Why A Wireless Security Camera Is The Smart Option

Allow me to offer a word of advice; Before you sign your building business or construction operation up for a wireless security system, make sure you’re being offered a product that is truly wireless in both its construction and its transmission style.
You may not be aware, but there is a difference between security cameras that are truly wireless (and require no cables at all) to cameras that just offer wireless transmission of the footage they record. Watch out for this difference as it could end up costing you money, time and one hell of a hassle if things go wrong.
The ambiguity of the language use is not dishonest but it is an annoying trick for new players to the game. There are companies out there selling so-called 'Wireless CCTV systems' which actually require cables. While they do have a WIFI device that replaces the ethernet line, these cameras must still be plugged into a power supply. So, yes, they are wireless in one sense, but they will require a power source and other accessories for operation. This means permanent cabling alterations on your site and the possibility of unexpected cost additions to your quote.
You don't still use an old corded phone to run your business - Why would you run your security surveillance on cables if you don't have to?
Standalone Wireless Security Cameras Win In Every Category
I was going to create a pros and cons list for each of these products, but the cons section of truly wireless stand-alone security cameras is too short to warrant a mention. Instead, I’ve compared and contrasted the two products so you can see the difference and understand which questions to ask the companies you get in to quote on your security setup.
Internet Access
Internet access is vital for both stand-alone solar-powered cameras and any general CCTV camera in the market with a WIFI transmitter. The difference is that stand alone solar systems rely on the 3G or 4G network available in your site’s wider coverage area rather than the WIFI router in your site’s office.
So if your power goes down, or your office space is compromised, your CCTV system is going to stop transmitting images while a solar powered security camera will continue to record and transmit despite any power or WIFI interruption. Take the test now. If you can walk around your site and get bars of internet coverage on your mobile phone then a solar powered security system like Spectur offers is going to be the most effective way to prevent crime on your site.
Equipment and Accessories
Solar security cameras don’t require any extra accessories while traditional wireless CCTV cameras need a recording device like a PC to be left on site within range of the cameras. If you need to cover an area that’s over 90 meters, you’ll have to use repeaters, secondary routers or even two different PC systems to ensure you don’t lose footage due to range restrictions with the CCTV system. To put it frankly, you can risk inviting those issues or simply install a standalone solar system that requires none of the above extra equipment and the hassle that comes with it.
Installation
Be aware that if you do end up choosing a wireless CCTV system, you’re going to need to allow time and extra budget for cabling and setup. CCTV systems need a power source which means you’re going to have to trench for cables and the cameras will be hard to move once installed.
In opposition, solar security cameras are stand alone and need no plugs, routers, PC’s or cables. Instead, they are powered by solar panels and have a large backup battery which ensures continuity of service at night time or during cloudy periods. If that sounds good, it’s simply a matter of calling the Spectur team to set them up and you’ll be good to go within 24 hours.
Image storage
Spectur security cameras in particular use the 3G or 4G signal in your area to send live, real-time footage for storage and access to the company’s own cloud management programme. This means all your data is stored safely off-site.
If you choose a CCTV wireless system then you’re waging a bet that any potential intruders won’t access the office on your site to try to destroy the footage. Or that the standalone device or computer you had to install with the CCTV system isn't taken along with everything else of value!
Truly Wireless Security Is The Smart Option
In the categories of internet access, extra accessory requirements, installation and even image storage - a truly wireless security camera beats all the competition.
So don’t get confused by the language when a security company quotes you. There really is a difference between standalone and wireless cameras. As a business owner in the building industry, you shouldn’t have to wear the cost and hassle of getting the wrong system for your site because of a simple naming issue.
