Hey ewo, no one is buying 87 million shares, 5% of the register so they can loan them out to shorters. If shorters want shares then they can source them directly from existing holders.
Now if you do want to talk about shorting activity on the stock let's do that. Since quack made his post back on 29/03 the shorters have in fact continued to cover their position in EWC. According to ASICs data (delayed by 3 days) the size of the short is now down to 8.6 million shares or 0.5% of the register http://asic.gov.au/Reports/Daily/2017/06/RR20170605-001-SSDailyAggShortPos.pdf
