I don't know if it is that big of a joke, as all they are doing is trading.
It all revolves around the magical 5%, and UBS just happen to be hovering around that mark, which is about 135,000,000 shares.
If UBS were fluctuating around 100,000,000 shares you wouldnt give two hoots, because you wouldnt see any of these announcements and they wouldn't be classified as a substantial shareholder.
If they were fluctuating at around 200,000,000 shares you wouldnt give two hoots, because you wouldnt be seeing any announcements and they would permanantly be classified as a substantial holder.
The only issue that is instead of fluctuating around the 100,000,000 or 200,000,000 share mark, they are fluctauting around the 135,000,000 mark which happens to be the 5% threshold mark, which results in these annoying and distracting shareholder notices.
As annoying as these announcements are, one good thing about them is that it provides us with a little bite more information such as trading patterns, and those smart enough may be able to use it to their advantage.
