    I look at number of shares on issue.
    Amount of cash
    Amount of debt
    Top20 shareholders
    Directors shareholdings
    Recent activity in change of substantial holding. Then do a little background search on the people taking a substantial holding for a clue or connection.
    Corporate service companies involved. eg. Cicero

    That's what I look for but I'm also still a newbie
