The way I read it Brickworks hasn't made any investment in QHL. Brickworks holds about 43% of the shares in Washington H. Soul Pattinson and it is WHSP who hold 17.71% of QHL therefore Brickworks is saying that via their investment in WSHP they hold the 17.71% interest in QHL.
If Brickworks bought 2.29% of the QHL shares on issue in their own right then they would probably need to signal their intention for a takeover. I don't think that will happen.
