However, I'll admit I have a little familiarity in the legal sector, I work in it and associate with lawyers on a daily basis. I also know from experience that legal matters almost always overrun, except when there are clear financial incentives for legal professionals to close matters quickly.
I also think that there is some value in speculating, although I probably should clarify that this what I am doing.
It would be nice to know some facts about how long mediation for class actions of a certain size and complexity takes on average, and if mediation fails how long the average trial takes to achieve an outcome. However I could not find any empirical facts (by Googling anyway). So all I can do at this point, is speculate, that a trial of the size and complexity of the Wivenhoe class action will not be quick through mediation or the courts.
As a past and future IMF investor, I will be taking the position of expecting this case to drag on and making my investment decisions assuming that any revenue received from a positive outcome before EOFY 2019 will be a bonus.
