Well in regards to MF, he may not have taken up oppies and furthermore may have simply felt that if he did not their would be no support for underwriting and could swoop. Putting the BOD on its backside and sending a message to them that he's the only bloke prepared to stump up serious dollars. I'e do it my way or else. (Whatever that could be) The delay in receiving cleared funds and subsequent administration matters puts MF as a candidate for sure.
