I’m not saying either are more important than the other. They compliment each other, if this organisation is dependant heavily on only one executive and one executive is “more important” than the other we have issues..... I think you’ll find the strongest businesses are those which build strong teams, not a strong individual.

If you believe one role is more important than another that’s your view. Think you’ll find it’s not a view shared by many executives out there, and I certainly hope it’s not one shared at A40, each role is as important as the other.

The COO runs operations as efficiently as possible, the CFO supports his operation by giving analysis on the profitability of his operation. He might find a 10% efficiency gain, that efficiency gain increases the bottom line. Now let’s say that efficiency gain comes from utilising new vendors, these vendors provide unfavourable credit terms - such as prepayment. We then need to dip into the overdraft at say 10% to pay for this. On $1m that’s 100k pa in interest repayments, does the COO know this without a CFO? Probably not, the cost of money is real. Now suppose the CFO has keen negotiation skills. He can save this interest, but not only that adds to the businesses efficiency gain.

Without labouring the point neither position is more important than the other. If you disagree maybe call MC and see what his thoughts are, pretty sure I know answer you will get. If you let egos dominate a business it will generally end badly...
