Pancakes on the grill,
Maple syrup freshly sapped,
Bert comes in with a grin
Sowed oats and he is rapt.
Years had passed, patience thin
Draught played its part
Lost fire within.
He lit the gas,
The flame did start,
And Bert felt power warm his heart.
He’d thrown the seeds back and forth,
He’d tilled the soil and mowed the grass,
He worked the land from south to north,
A hopeful blessing had come to pass.
With tearful eyes,
His heart laid bare,
He knew, this time
It was the Lions share.
