This has been amateur hour from the word go

I've lost count of how many people occupied so called senior positions with overseas companies, are apparently well connected and then show themselves as completely unsuitable when they become CEO of a listed company

Being a CEO involves way more than industry experience...it's more about having commercial common sense , market experience and nous...this appears to be sorely lacking here
