Appen are moving towards and investing in automation, a smart move strategically and very logical. Even before this acquisition, their stated goal of automating annotation was the most exciting growth aspect that I could see so this acquisition makes so much sense. The acquisition of a "best in class machine learning software platform" is music to my ears. You also pick up talented AI people in a competitive field where top talent is hard to come by.
A total consideration of US$ 175 Million is not very dilutive considering Appen's big market cap. Short term volatility does not concern me as I bought this stock a while back as a long term investment and have held tight. I think this acquisition is positive to the company fundamentals and revenue down the track.
