There is a book called Red Notice by Bill Browder, smart guy established a fund in Russia after the collapse, interesting insight into eastern European and Russian mindsight. One particular event in the book may explain. The fund was able to acquire 1% of a working oil field , very nice and then onto 2% of that particular asset, and was happy with that. All good
But the asset despite trading in the market , a Russian oligarch owned the majority of shares. This guy declared war on Bill Browder, did not like the idea of his 2% fund ownership. The battles began with the courts, brides to officials(phony charges) to murder of several people and being thrown out of Russia.
Get the picture, something in the culture successful guys do not like to be outdone and its going to the mattress quoting the godfather
