Best way to answer this question is by asking a question , do you have a mate working in any Govt. department on contract? Just ask them when their employment contract get extended? Most will answer, just a week prior to expiry. I am not making this up , this is the reality. Contract paper gets signed by so many people (including supervisor,HR, finance) before it reaches supreme leader . Unless he signs it nothing is confirm.

Now in this case contract was until 31st December. Big boss is on holiday mode and don't want any disturbance during that time. On Monday he asked his PA , can you find out if there is anything I need to sign before Fiesta ? His secretary called Kate on Tuesday "hey, you have been doing a great job and we would like to give you 2 years extension, so if you like to go ahead with this deal, just sign , scan and return to me by email." PA returned the contract extension papers with Big boss signature this morning at 10.30.

Second paragraph I made up. But this is from my experience. Before they prepared contract papers, directors knew as much as market knows. Contract will most likely extend or may not extend - there is always one excuse ready "Budget unknown".
