This is just party political point scoring. I wouldn't confuse anything shouted across the floor in parliament with actual facts. Mr Redman uses the words 'dud' and 'frolic' which suggests he may be confusing this with his last party junket to NSW! The viability of the Albany site from a functional or commercial perspective is just a side show. The point is that research and development is being funded and continuing in real conditions. Delivering a commercially viable solution is the holy grail. If they can get to that point then grid time in Albany will be irrelevant. You can argue either side of this coin with equal integrity. It's too risky in terms of the likelihood of a commercially viable solution so don't fund it OR it's worth the risk as the consequence of a successful outcome would be huge. That's the judgement call we make as investors and politicians will kick this around the house all day long if they think they can get some attention.
However, if the implication is that the research will be hindered because of the stated circumstances, that's a different matter but that's not how I read it.
