I consume a relatively large amount of yoghurt, and from pers experience, have found it to be a 'self preserving' product and will keep in good order way past it 'best before' date if stored at low temp.
Maybe its not the way what the food regulators want usto behave ......
The origins of yoghurt afaik are that it was one way nomadic herders had of 'preserving' milk product by fermentation.
