    I’m not concerned at a mining licence not being granted - though the risk is there. Look at all the diamond mining co’s there - de beers and Lucara to name a couple, then look at DML and now Cupric.. none of which seemed to have any issues. MOD are doing the right thing training up locals, doing required environmental impact studies and community engagement.

    There are land reserves / game parks and farming land but a lot of the country is baron covered in Kalahari sand and mining shouldnt cause too much destruction imo.

    I was intrigued at the Q&A on the diggers and dealers preso where a question was thrown on the govt ownership - apparently they can elect to take up to 15% ownership in a project by paying proportion of sunk costs.. I haven’t seen this done in Botswana though haven’t looked hard.

    The only spat I’ve seen between the Botswana govt and a mining co is to do with Russian nickel company norilsk- link below, though I don’t think the Russians did themselves any favours. To me it looks like a great jurisdiction and can’t see any issues with a ML.
