Owning a number of horses and being aware of the risks and costs associated with vet care after the fact I can assure you that if the industry could take advantage of technology that helped provide important information like temperature, listlesness, activity history and the like, I am sure it would be an invaluable tool in combatting many life threatening illnesses including Hendra, Cholic and worms. Early diagnosis through a $70 investment in a tag is a marginal investment if it helps save the life of a horse - which can range in value from $5000 to over $1m not to mention vet costs. Speaking from personal experience we lost an $85,000 horse to cholic last year before spending nearly $10,000 in vet fees for operating costs which eventually proved fruitless. No doubt early detection would have helped.

Another area Novatron should consider is developing a sensor that can trigger an alarm when a brood mare lays down in pregnancy to give birth. There is a collar and alarm available on the market that currently cost around $800. A $70 chip would hopefully be a far cheaper, more reliable, more informative and more permanent solution to horse breeders.
