One thing that people continue to miss here is that LIFX is not just a "retail company" or a "lighting company". The sensors that are built into these lights effectively make them mini ohms. They allow for automated control of not just the lights but potentially many more appliances including HVAC, TV's via their infra red technology. Although not all the functionalities have been released, these bulbs will be able to determine ambiance, motion, occupancy, temperature/ humidity, energy consumption and Co2 / air quality/ comfort. The data that these lights collect needs to be processed into a format that is useful to the building owners and occupiers. That is where BUD steps up to the plate. These lights/ sensors can be programmed for certain conditions from a laptop or phone and even voice commands. LiFX is a technology company with the added benefits of an exciting energy saving and fun bulb. BUD will add the Saas to LiFX.
The land grab in voice controlled technology will take lifx/bud along with it. Only 4% of alexa and google homes are contented to smart lights. That will change very quickly. Amazon want an alexa in every hotel room. The growth of LiFX has only just begun. If the Lifx founders and DM didn't believe that then why would they be willing to escrow their shares until $100 million in gross revenues is contributed within 18 months and $250 million within 3 years. That is an average of $83m per year. 2018 revenue was $38.5m. So although they have been growing at 70-100% p.a ( whilst capital constrained) to get their first tranche of shares they need to grow at approx 200%p.a.
The addition of LiFX to bud is a very big deal. Remember, bud started off as a IoT data processing start-up. Building the ohm hardware was seen as necessary so as to provide a start to finish solution for building owners. Given the disappoint up take of the ohms the company needed to listen to customer feed back. Much of that feed back came from not only wanting to having the monitoring but also control. Lifx does that.
