So...for a LIFX owners point of view.
I don't own any BUD shares. I have watched it from time to time but this acquisition caught my eye because I own a great many LIFX globes. 22 in fact and another one on the way in the post.
I have 53 IOT devices all up and I have tested a couple of hundred over the last few years. I am a tech
My love affair with LIFX started when they first started up and since then I have bought every generation and my Gen 1 lights are still running perfectly. They have a 22.6 year lifespan. The cost around 4 cents per day per bulb to run if you run them for 4 hours.
They are wireless globes. This is a big differential to Phillips and the others as the others require a hub to manage them. LIFX is just like a normal globe which you can turn on and off at the switch just like a normal globe. So no wifi….no problem. The app that controls them is excellent and you can control them from anywhere in the world from your phone/tablet.
They work very well with Alexa/Google Home/ Apple Homekit...and I have tested them all. Alexa is my preference though. They also work through IFTTT which allows you to automate them beyond the excellent automation built into the app. There are many apps that support them as well Gideon, Yonomi etc.
Yes...They are expensive.....and directed at the home market. A sound decision. IOT is a huge area and has many limits and pitfalls. Hitting the home area opens up the field to the more curious buyers.
Correct me if I am wrong but Ohm seems to be a product that is not selling well? The LIFX purchase may help give it a leg up....especially in the commercial space because if LIFX could be manufactured at a better price....due to a volume increase...then its a very good option for any commercial entity. It is a high quality product which may prove the tipping point into getting Ohm across the line.
My h@pe is that this deal compliments both companies and doesn't mess up LIFX. I have found them to be an excellent company to deal with and have only ever had one issue which their support team fixed for me instantly.
