Hard to say... It really depends on what the agreement is between tapit and 99. It's an assumption, but I think tapit probably makes a fraction of the commission charged per tap. If 99 owns 55% of the JV, then it would be a safe assumption to think 99 would make lower margins through NFC than through mobile commerce.
However in saying that, if the majority of Chinese consumer phones are NFC enabled, then it could certainly expand the amount transactions users make, and if this is successfully monetized, it could be a big deal.
I'm just having a hard time understanding how many transactions 99 will receive. I mean if my phone is NFC capable and I can make payments from it (think Apple Pay), then why would I choose to go through 99 wuxian's app? Why would I not use Apple Pay, or another simpler provider?
I also really don't know how advanced China is in terms of NFC pay. I get the feeling Australia is a little behind with this kind of payment.
Also I'd just like to add that I quite like how almost every month 99 has some announcement explaining how it is trying something new, or expanding into games, promotions, NFC pay - whatever. They are proactive and consistent, while also evolving to the demands of the market.
