The hardware is no good without the software and vise-versa, 3DM's initial exclusive partnering with Mach7 gave them a significant leg up locally and now the buy out places the hardware production directly in the path of established international markets, not withstanding Telstra's potential local contribution to reselling Mach7 as a product within it's Health portfolio which could be considerable. (yes, where is the Telstra update!).
It will also be interesting to see how the new entity manages the balance and focus between developing the relatively early adopting local market in Oz, versus the newly opened up and more established opportunities overseas. Not a bad problem to have really.
Agree that early traction into the medical fraternity and institutions will be key to securing their early advantage, the previous good press and ground breaking ops have been a great start, but that has yet to translate into the the desired revenue at scale and (surprisingly I thought) did not overly stir the interest of institutional or mum & dad investors at the time.
Perhaps it will take the average punter a trip to the OR a few years from now, watching a smart piece of perfectly made 3D prostheses being slowly lowered towards them before realising " .. hang on.. I could have ..." just before the anesthetic kicks in and everything goes black.
Stay tuned for more ramblings, and humble opinions only folks.
